Her professional experience includes STEM education, museum education, after-school quality improvement, school climate transformation, college-access, and gender differences in science achievement. She holds doctoral and master’s degrees in education (with specializations in educational psychology, measurement, and evaluation), and a bachelor of science in aerospace engineering. It is her honor to serve as president for RTP Evaluators (2018).

She specializes in program evaluation in higher education with particular expertise in NSF-sponsored education and training initiatives. She is the co-author of Teaching and Learning STEM: A Practical Guide published in 2016 by Jossey-Bass.

Dr. Cain holds a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Educational Psychology, Measurement, and Evaluation. She employs quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods to the full scope of evaluation activities. She applies an equity-centered (or culturally responsive) lens with a specialty in instrument development and validation as well as evaluation capacity building.
Chief, Program Analysis Branch, Division of Extramural Training and Research – National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences
The Program Analysis Branch evaluates research grants awarded by NIEHS. Christie leads a team that conducts portfolio analysis, develops information technology needed to collect data for evaluation and communicates research outcomes. Christie has worked extensively with logic models and metrics in research settings. PAB may have opportunities for summer research evaluation projects and interns.
